Asthma Problems Rise in California’s Mid-Valley

Asthma Problems Rise in California’s Mid-Valley Says UCLA Study

LA Testing offers indoor air quality (IAQ) testing services for mold, bacteria and other possible asthma triggers.

This month in an article entitled “Asthma Problems Rise in Mid-Valley” it was reported in the Appeal-Democrat that a greater share of Mid-Valley residents are having respiratory problems. The California counties of Yuba, Sutter and Colusa have all reported asthma rates significantly above the state’s 8.3% according to research by the UCLA Center for Health Policy.

The three counties had asthma rates ranging from 10.8% to 12.3%. According to the article, “Researchers called the asthma threat a growing one, saying the share of current and former sufferers in California grew from 11.3 to 13 percent of state residents from 2001 to 2007, and from 14 to 15.4 percent among children younger than 18. Some 3 million Californians had the condition in 2007.”

Reducing exposure to asthma triggers is something that can help reduce the number of potentially life threatening asthma attacks. Asthma attacks cause an inflammation of the lungs and airways leading to difficulty in breathing. Asthma in children has been reported to be on the rise in many industrialized countries.

LA Testing, an affiliate of EMSL Analytical, is one of the leading providers of testing services throughout California to identify asthma triggers in people’s homes, schools and places of business. “The problem of allergens and asthma triggers is a massive concern for those suffering from the condition,” reported Ben Sublasky, National Director of Client Services for LA Testing and EMSL Analytical. “There are ways to identify what triggers may be present in the air and on surfaces in buildings to help resolve the problem. Allergens from cockroaches, rodents, pet dander, pollen, smoke, particulates and mold can all potentially trigger asthmatic attacks.”

LA Testing has multiple locations across California that provides accurate and rapid environmental testing solutions. To learn more about testing for asthma triggers, including mold, pollen and other allergens please visit www.LATesting.com, email info@LATesting.com or call (800) 303-0047.
